Ferncourt challenges and inspires children to learn, using traditional and innovative teaching methods. We have successful numeracy and literacy programs, across all years.

Students have the benefit of a well resourced library and a newly upgraded computer lab. Computers with internet access serve every classroom. We were one of the first schools in NSW to be fitted with a ‘connected classroom’, allowing digital technology to link students with outside resources.

We offer exciting programs designed to raise awareness of our natural environment, social structures and political processes. The core curriculum is explored through regular excursions and camps, and students take part in a range of celebration days.

The school offers an Early School Support Program, a 'Reading Recovery' early intervention program designed to develop students’ literacy skills, and special support programs for Indigenous students and children from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Our qualified teachers regularly update their skills as part of our professional development strategy.

Our teaching and learning program is developed by our skilled teachers, based on the NSW Board of Studies and NSW Department of Education and Training syllabus requirements.

The NSW curriculum is ‘outcomes’ based.  To meet the specified outcomes Ferncourt, along with many other schools in NSW, has adopted a curriculum planning framework called ‘COGS’ which stands for ‘Connected Outcomes Groups’. Teachers, with the help of curriculum experts in the NSW Department of Education, have developed teaching programs across all years, based around COGs units. To read more about our COGS approach, download the COGS document in the attachments section below.
