The Regionals by Lily Rodgers
Six weeks after the district competition, I went to represent the school and district in the Regional finals on Monday the 9th of August. When I got there I realised there was someone I knew in the competition. I was first speaker so up I went to present my prepared speech. I think I did a fantastic job.
After a whole lot of other great speeches it was time for the impromptu section.
I was first speaker again so they took me into the planning room.
The topic was “Feeling proud” and my main point was that sometimes we can push too hard to make people proud of us and that who we are is what makes people most proud. When I finished my dad said I’m so proud of you, the whole audience laughed.
After more impromptu speeches it was time for the winner, and the winners were ……. Finn and Daniel.
After that I went for some feedback from the judges and I realised that the judges were more excited by facts and serious things than humorous funny things.
When I was getting ready to leave, so many members of the audience said that my speech was great and the dad of one of the winners came up to my dad and said that my impromptu rocked. So it was a fun competition, even if no-one from Ferncourt got to the State, because we’ve still got next year.
