Kindergarten students in the school's Eco Learning Area
At Ferncourt our aim is to provide a happy and safe environment for all, through positive reward systems, support and behaviour programs. Our programs are designed to instill confidence in students, as well as self discipline and a well developed sense of social justice. We have a whole-school Peer Support program, as well as a Buddies program run as part of Kindergarten orientation. In 2008 we introduced the 'Bounce Back!' resilience program. This program works to build resilient and confident young people with healthy self esteem who can successfully handle their own lives.
We have a zero tolerance approach to bullying, and an anti-rascism contact officer. Parents and students can access our part-time counsellor.
The school has a range of policies and practices to ensure effective discipline and learning:
- Good discipline and effective learning policy (see attachment below). This policy outlines out school values, rules, reward system (Basic Unit of Goodness or 'BUGS' System) and strategies to deal with unacceptable behaviour.
