Viva la spud!

E-mail Print PDF

The humble spud received rapturous praise this week at school pick up time. Parent volunteers took our harvest and par-boiled, barbequed them, then served them up to ravenous students - with a splash of olive oil and fresh rosemary from the Herb Spiral. We all learnt that down on the farm there is no standard sized potato. Our spuds were cooked up in all their glorious forms, ranging from small marble to big, English pub style size.

For kindergarten students this was a cradle to grave experience. They had planted the bald potatoes in our Eco Learning Garden, watched them push green through the soil, saw them wither, dug them up and then devoured them.

It was billed as a farmers' market day, with some keen beans even dressed as tractors to get with the mood. This is the second big potato gig, the last in 2007. Read all about it in Voren's Nature at School blog.
